Want to Celebrate Handel's Birthday?

George Frederic Handel - born 23rd February 1685

There will be cake!

On Handel's birthday, 23rd February 2018, there will be free entry at Handel House from 11.00 - 6.00. Refreshments will be available to visitors throughout the day. Every hour, on the hour, there will be a 15 minute recital by members of the Amadè Players, starting at 11.00, the last one at 4.00 pm

Handel moved into the newly built house in Brook Street, London, in 1724 and lived there until he died in 1759. It was here that he wrote some of his most famous works, including Zadok the Priest, and The Music for the Royal Fireworks.

It is now called Handel House Museum with the mission to promote the knowledge, awareness and enjoyment of Handel's music to as many people as possible. Events include live performances, educational and outreach activities, and exhibiting and interpreting objects connected with his life.

In addition the museum promotes the diverse and continuing musical heritage of 23 Brook Street, through its association with Jimi Hendrix who lived there in the late 20th century.

Playing Wagner
with the stars of the future

The Rehearsal Orchestra
http://www.rehearsal-orchestra.org

The Rehearsal Orchestra is a musical charity that runs weekend and full-week orchestral courses for future professionals and serious amateurs. Since 1957, they have offered high-level training through intensive rehearsal, exploring key orchestral repertoire with prominent conductors, and professional string section leaders. This supportive, non-competitive environment allows players to grow as musicians without the pressure of concert giving. Places on every course are heavily subsidised to enable as many players as possible to benefit from the opportunities they offer.

Kings Place - Sunday Foyer Concerts - Westgate Wind Quintet - 10th November 2013

Westgate Wind Quintet, June Emerson Wind Music Launchpad Prize 2013/14 winners, presents a linked programme to the evening’s concert (Reiko Fujisawa (piano) & Principals from the London Orchestras). The French works, written twenty years apart from each other highlight the progression from Romantic to the Impressionist style of Ravel. As contemporaries, Danzi revered Mozart, and as an English composer, Martin Butler is a contemporary of Peter Fribbins. Poulenc’s Novelette precedes the composition of his Sextet by 5 years.

The Midst of Life: Celebrating the Life and Music of Stephen Dodgson

The Midst of Life

The English composer Stephen Dodgson sadly died earlier this year. He was a prolific English composer, and we were lucky enough to have published a few of his wind pieces.

The pieces we publish are:
  • O Swallow! for alto flute & piano
  • Bagatelles for clarinet quartet
  • Baermann's Treasure & Baermann: The Sequel for clarinet & piano
  • Gipsy Songs for mezzo voice, clarinet & piano
To be published this October:
  • Five Occasional Pieces for flute & piano

The Midst of Life: A Hearty Celebration of the Life and Music of Stephen Dodgson, in aid of the MAE Foundation, will take place on Thursday, October 3, 2013 from 7:30pm to 9:30pm at

Featuring:

The Tippett String Quartet
John Williams (guitar)
Maggie Cole (harpsichord)
Richard Harvey (recorder)
Zone 6 Brass Quintet
Benedict Cruft (violin)

 and more... subject to availability.

The Tippett String Quartet, who have recorded all nine of Stephen Dodgson's quartets, and John Williams, who has played his music for 57 years, lead this wide-ranging celebration of his life and work.

This celebration of Stephen Dodgson is raising funds for the MAE Foundation, which aims to provide musical instruments and music teaching to thousands of refugee children from Burma in the jungle refugee camps along the Thai border.

Despite the changes now taking place in Myanmar, the children in these camps -- more than 60,000 of them -- will still be living in temporary, leaf-roofed huts in the jungle for years to come.

The MAE Foundation, set up three years ago by Richard Harvey, a former student of Stephen Dodgson, is already helping more than a thousand of these bright, enthusiastic refugee children learn to play music together.

June Emerson Wind Music are delighted to support the Aeolian Orchestra

St Sepulchre-without-Newgate, credit: John Salmon
We are please to provide some practical support to
the Aeolian Orchestra, who have a concert on 4th March.

The Aeolian Orchestra’s 2nd concert of 2012 brings together the three titans of the classical era – Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven. For this concert, on March 4th, the orchestra’s number will be reduced to that of a classical era orchestra.

The time elapsed between the writing of Beethoven’s Overture “Coriolan” (1807) and that of Mozart’s first Sinfonia Concertante - for 4 winds – (1778) is less than 30 years. Haydn’s Symphony No.99 falls between the two – written  in 1793. The Aeolian Orchestra’s March programme provides a clear insight into the musical progress of this short time-span.

Sunday 4th March 2012, 7.30pm.
Tickets on entry £7 (£3 students)

Venue:
St Sepulchre-without-Newgate, Holborn Viaduct (junctionwith Giltspur Street), London EC1A 9DE. click for a map.

Earlier this year, June Emerson Wind Music announced the winners of this year's Launchpad Prize.

About Guildhall School of Music and Drama
The Guildhall School of Music & Drama is one of Europe's leading conservatoires, offering musicians, actors, stage managers and theatre technicians an inspiring environment in which to develop as artists and professionals.

About the prize
The Launchpad Prize was an idea that began as a desire to help young musicians in some significant way. With our limited financial resources it was difficult to come up with something that would make enough of a difference to make it worthwhile. The idea of sponsoring a prize at one of the UK music colleges was something we just couldn’t afford, and we also felt that we’d like to be able to offer something to more than just one college and be a little more ‘hands on’. We eventually decided that we would assist one young (predominantly) final year wind ensemble from each of the major UK music colleges to launch themselves onto the professional circuit.

Ellipsis Quintet at St Martin in the Fields, Trafalgar Square, London

Lunchtime Concert - Ellipsis Quintet

Royal Academy of Music Series 1:00pm - Tuesday 7 June 2011

The Ellipsis Quintet
image: www.stmartin-in-the-fields.org

The Ellipsis Quintet was formed in Autumn 2009 and is already establishing itself in the public domain as a dynamic new wind ensemble. The quintet comprises Michael Hsin-en Liu (Flute), Peter Facer (Oboe), Charlotte Swift (Clarinet), Ashley Myall (Bassoon) and Hannes Arnold (French Horn). The group met whilst all studying for their Masters in performance at the Royal Academy of Music.

In January 2010, the quintet was the winner of the Royal Academy's Nicholas Blake Wind Ensemble Prize, got to the semi-finals of the Royal Over-Seas League Chamber Music Competition in March and was recently named the winner of the June Emerson Wind Music Launchpad Prize 2010 in June.

The quintet greatly enjoy playing contemporary music; they recently premiered Benjamin Hollway's Quintet No 1 and will soon perform James Lark's "As the Winds and the Months" in a forthcoming concert. Recent performances include concerts in the David Josefowitz Hall and Duke's Hall of Royal Academy of Music, Holy Trinity Church in Stratford-upon-Avon, the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge and the Regent Hall, London.

The backgrounds of each of the players are extremely varied: Charlotte, Peter and Ashley read Music at Cambridge and Leeds Universities, while Hannes studied at the Universität Mozarteum in Austria and Michael at the City University of New York. The group frequently plays together in an orchestral context as well, often taking prominent roles in the Royal Academy's Symphony and Concert orchestras. For more information, please visit www.EllipsisQuintet.co.uk (coming soon).

Concert Details

This lunchtime concert is FREE and no ticket is required. Lunchtime concerts last approximately 45 minutes and latecomers will be admitted to the church when there is a suitable break in the programme. A collection is taken at the end of the concert which goes towards the work of St Martin's.
